GOVERNMENT FINANCE

CGFM^® and CPFO

CGFM is three computer-based examinations taken year-round: the governmental environment, governmental accounting and financial reporting and budgeting, and governmental financial management and control. CPFO is a seven-examination program covering the public finance officer’s working ground. Between them they are the reason this product carries a calculation engine at all — fund accounting is arithmetic with rules attached, and a study guide with a typo in an entry teaches you the typo.

PROCUREMENT

CPPB^®, CPPO^®, NIGP-CPP^® and FAC-C

The buyer and officer credentials, the four-module public procurement program, and — on the federal side — the Defense Acquisition University’s Contracting Professional examination behind the Federal Acquisition Certification in Contracting at the Professional level. Four routes into the same body of knowledge: sourcing, solicitation, evaluation, award and contract administration, under either the Federal Acquisition Regulation or a state procurement code.

One hundred and twenty questions in two and a half hours, reported as a scaled score. The knowledge behind it — the phases, incident command at manager depth, planning, mitigation and recovery — is also what a great many state and local exams touch on, so it is not knowledge that sits in one corner of your profile.

The incident-command material here is knowledge for an exam. It is not a course and it issues no certificate — incident-command certificates come from the federal training system, not from a study product.

PLANNING, HR, GRANTS, PARKS

AICP^®, IPMA-CP, GPC and CPRP^®

Planning law and theory, land use, transportation and environmental review; merit systems, classification and compensation, labor relations and equal employment; grant development and compliance; and parks and recreation management. Four smaller populations with thin material on the market, and no extra cost here — they are views of the same corpus.
